Call of the Blobfish

We have some Good News!

Kids Story Room is excited to announce that we are the recipients of a National Science Week Community Grant to produce a Podcast for this  fabulous event that takes place from the 15th – 23rd of August, 2020.

Here at KSR, we will be presenting the Pod Play, Call of the Blobfish.

Call of the Blobfish tells a wondrous and magical underwater adventure story performed by professional actors.

This podcast aims to ignite the curious scientist in children by engaging them in a story of oceans and marine life, and of their importance to human existence.

There will be an additional podcast discussion with a South Australian marine scientist at the close of the Pod Play, to further unpack ideas around marine life sustainability.

Call of the Blobfish explores themes related to the future of our marine life and how we can manage it sustainably, marine ecosystems and ocean zones, awareness of our surroundings, positive consequences of good actions, overcoming challenges and fears to achieve a goal and finding solutions to problems.

Deep down in the magical world beneath the waves, the wise and ancient Blobfish needs help. Blobfish reveals to his friend, Prawn, that trouble is on the way and Blobfish needs to speak to a human being, urgently. Prawn springs into action to save his wise old friend and swims up into the open waters of the big blue sea where he meets Swordfish. Swordfish joins the quest and in turn meets Tuna, who leads them to Leafy Seadragon, who sends them to Tursi, the dolphin.

Each one of this jumbly bunch of sea creatures has an integral part to play and must overcome their fears and contribute to their united quest in order to help the Blobfish and save their ocean home.

How will they get a person to the very bottom of the ocean? (Hint: just a little magic!) What will they do to help the Blobfish?

The school theme of National Science Week 2020 is Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans. Audiences, including parents and teachers, will be able to download an educational support pack of resource material and links to engage listeners further with the themes promoted in the Pod Play.
